I find this piece completely and underly inspirational. The point was to refocus where our education process , teaching and such should be. It's called the " happening " the moment every teacher , professor, classroom should experience. When learning becomes more then believing the facts and swolling the teachers words as if their the fruit of life and whether healthy or not, should not be questioned. To "witness the re engagement of the heart, a new tuning of all the senses"(last page last paragraph) To bring passion, heart, true experience back into ,(well the main focus is english composistion but a essay of this strength is reaching out to more then just a single writing class) To the universities and if not the whole education system which could use a reboot. All my life learning has been barly enjoyable, pointless times full of facts. But this essays point is to make those times full of shock , surprise and experience where thinking, YOUR own thoughts, occur and the heart and mind interact and find foundation in the passion that should be the base of everyones learning.
"For better of worse, our educational system is undeniably rigid" could there be a truer statement. I'm deeply sadden to say that yesterday was the first time in all my 8 years of eduction that my mind expanded, explored, reached and leaped. To know that these moments are possible, that they can be given is a whole new hope. Never ever would i consider being a teacher but if i can give , this happening, these awakening experiences to kids before they've be brain washed, lost their freedom of thought, that would be an unexplainably fulfilling moment. Yes one that would take a deeper understanding , because with out a doubt i have spent my education beng brainwashed into routines, rules, and coloring in the lines, but one that would be worth so much more then just passing my students, teaching them, making them learn. Our minds were set to explore ,to invent, create, we've lost the process along the way and have just settled for the text books, essays and being fed facts. Learning is/should be a new experience , not the one you;ve had a million times over.
