SYTHESIS OF PAGES 80-81
The main focus of pages 80-81 was on the trade of tobacco in the new world colonies, mainly Virginia, and the affects it had on the people, England and the world in general. King James view were negative, saying that for the most part it was an unhealthy drug with “a bewitching quality” (80), but that was a view that was mainly retained to the king himself. On the other hand, “physicians praised it as a wonder drug”(80) claiming it was good for the sick and for the healthy. The economy of England flourished and transformed. Of course along with the Virginia colony of course and with mass production it was an affordable expensive for everyone to enjoy. Tobacco was smoked, chewed and eventually with time and the annoyance of the mess and smoke “snuffed”. If the English colonies had not began to produce and then commercializing tobacco “the history of both English North American colonies and the rest of the world would have been very different”( 80 ).
